Chili's Buffalo Chicken Ranch Sandwich

Chili's used to be about the only "box" restaurant I loved because the food was good, and the atmosphere was right. Today, it's been turned into a family restaurant with mostly crappy food and obnoxious decor. However, the chili, and this sandwich: Chili's Buffalo Chicken Ranch Sandwich, still gives me a reason to go.  Read more »

Jack In The Box's Sourdough Jack Cheeseburger

This is one of those simple cheeseburger recipes that proves less is sometimes more. Your first inclination is to think “hey it has no toppings!!”, but try it. It's just the right flavors, it's simple and it's a burger that doesn't get drowned in condiments.  Read more »

Boston Cooler

If you've never heard of a Boston Cooler, then you've probably never spent much time in the Michigan or Ohio areas of the United States. It's much like a traditional root beer float, but it uses a regional drink from Detroit's Boston Boulevard known as Vernors. When I was sick as a child you drank Vernors. When you were thirsty, you drank Vernors.  Read more »

How to: Frisch's Big-Boy Sandwich at McDonald's.

Some of the greatest inventions of this world occur when its inventor least expects it. Today it happened for me. I'm lying in bed with a horrible headache, and then it hits me. I'm like, "Holy Crap", and in complete awe of myself; I run to the living room to double check no one on the Internet has thought of it before. Then I wonder, will they even do it? The answer it turns out, is yes.  Read more »

Tarte Flambée

So I was rolling around the north of France last year, part of an art-history class, when we stopped for lunch in this little village, Madame, our teacher gave us an hour for lunch. Usually I was one of the first ones back on the bus, considering my affection for street food, and cheap lunches, however on this occasion things turned out different. This is the day I met Stefano and Kara.  Read more »

Louvain after WWII

About two years ago, I graduated our highly esteemed community college (locally known as Ghetto Tech) with an Associates Degree and had to make plans for my B.A. - At the time, I highly marketed the concept that Shannon and myself transfer to K.U., an university in Louvain, Belgium (20 miles south of Brussels).  Read more »

The City of Angels and Demons

The Encounter at LAX, is always interesting to stare at, at 3 AM (EST) wondering if you've landed on Mars.

It's been a while since I've flown domestic. Domestic travel is far different than any international flight. It's quick (4 hours to L.A.), cramped, and typically the destination isn't much different from the one you departed from. America is homogenized, it's safe.  Read more »

What to do with leftover pulled pork?

So I'm addicted to slow cooking pork (if you haven't figured that out), and I love just popping a shoulder of pork in the oven in the morning and coming home to great tasting food. The problem is, and likely the reason your reading this, is that after a few dozen of pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, you want something else. It's food-A.D.D.  Read more »

Torta Cubana Recipe

The cubano, or Cuban sandwich is a very defined, pressed (traditionally flat-bread) sandwich made of ham, pork, cheese, mustard and pickles from the country of Cuba. It's good, but there's something better: the Mexican version.

Called a torta cubana, this Mexican version throws caution to the wind, and says put whatever you want on me.  Read more »

How to Cook Pulled Pork BBQ

Why in the world has no one ever thought to add lettuce and tomato to a BBQ sandwich?

So I wouldn't say I've always been the biggest fan of Carolina BBQ. Actually, I've not been a big fan of BBQ at all, but that's beginning to change.  Read more »
